Why trifold brochures still outperform digital
In a world of email blasts and social media ads, a physical trifold brochure remains one of the highest-converting marketing formats. 79% of consumers act on direct mail immediately, compared to only 45% who act on email. A trifold brochure gives you six panels — enough space to tell a complete story, from problem to solution to call-to-action, in a format people physically hold and engage with.
Trifold brochures work because they create a guided reading experience. When someone opens your brochure, their eye moves naturally from the cover panel to the inside spread, following the narrative you've designed. This is fundamentally different from a website where visitors bounce in 8 seconds or a social post they scroll past in 1.5.
Traditional brochure design takes 7–15 hours and costs $300–800. Kreatos reads your website in 30 seconds, understands your brand and messaging, then generates a complete trifold brochure with real copy — not placeholder text. Your first draft is ready in under 5 minutes.
Trifold brochure dimensions — the numbers that matter
Getting the dimensions right is critical. If your file doesn't match your printer's specifications, you'll waste your entire print run. Here are the exact numbers:
| Specification | Value | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Flat size | 11" × 8.5" | Landscape US letter orientation |
| Folded size | 3.67" × 8.5" | Each panel ≈ one-third of 11" |
| Bleed | 0.125" all sides | Extra area that gets trimmed off |
| Trim size (with bleed) | 11.25" × 8.75" | Actual file dimensions |
| Safe zone | 0.25" from trim edge | Keep all text/logos inside this |
| Resolution | 300 DPI | Minimum for commercial printing |
| Color mode | CMYK | RGB prints differently than screen |

The 6-panel layout — what goes where
A trifold brochure has six panels across two sides. Each panel has a specific purpose. Getting this structure right is the difference between a brochure that converts and one that confuses. This panel structure works identically for both brochures and pamphlets — the difference is tone: brochure copy sells, pamphlet copy informs. Not sure which you need? Front side (face up)
Back side (face down)
Kreatos's AI understands this structure. When it generates your trifold, it automatically places your content in the right panels — headline on the cover, details on the inside spread, contact on the back. You don't need to know the layout rules; the AI handles them.

Trifold brochure design tips that actually matter
1. The cover sells the open — nothing else
Your cover panel has one job: make the reader open the brochure. It's not a summary of everything inside. It's a headline, a compelling image, and your logo. That's it. If you put too much on the cover, people assume they've already seen everything and won't bother opening it.
2. Design the inside spread as one unit
When someone fully opens your trifold, the three inside panels create a single landscape canvas. The best trifold designs treat this as one continuous composition — a background image or gradient that spans all three panels, with content blocks overlaid. This creates visual impact that three separate panels can't match.
3. The inside flap is your closer
The inside flap (the narrower panel that folds in) is the last thing someone reads before closing the brochure. Put your strongest call-to-action here — a QR code to your booking page, a phone number with "Call today," or a limited-time offer. Don't waste it on your company history.
4. Account for the fold in your images
Images that cross fold lines will have a visible crease through them. Either keep images within a single panel or use abstract/pattern backgrounds that won't look broken at the fold. Kreatos automatically positions images to avoid fold-line conflicts.
5. Print a test copy first
Before ordering 1,000 copies, print one on your office printer and fold it by hand. Check that the panels align, text is readable, and the fold direction is correct. Colors will differ between your screen and print — a test copy catches the worst surprises.
Trifold vs. Z-fold — which should you choose?
The two most common brochure formats are trifold and z-fold. They use the same paper size (11" × 8.5") but fold differently:
Trifold
Best for sequential stories, service overviews, and menus. The folded-in panel creates a reveal moment.
See trifold dimensions →Z-Fold
Best for maps, timelines, and content that benefits from being seen all at once when fully opened.

Print-ready export — what Kreatos includes
Every Kreatos trifold export is built for commercial printing. Here's what's in your PDF:
- 300 DPI resolution — the minimum standard for offset and digital commercial printing
- 0.125" bleed on all sides — ensures no white edges after trimming
- 8 crop marks — corner indicators showing the printer exactly where to cut
- Fold marks — lines indicating the two fold positions (front and back mirrored)
- Printer specs page — a separate page listing trim size, bleed, fold positions, and safe zones
- 0.25" safe zone — all text and logos are kept inside the trim area by this margin
Upload your exported PDF directly to VistaPrint, PrintingForLess, GotPrint, or any local printer. No additional file preparation needed.
